The Old Woodstock Mock Mayor elections are all about preserving traditions, but contributing to local charities is also a key component of the event.  Each year, we choose several charities, focusing on smaller, local organisations that often get overlooked.  We are so proud of the difference the community has made by supporting our Charity Bar, buying raffle tickets or simply donating on the day.

We focus on mental health (children and adults), vulnerable community members (young parents, toddlers, young people, the elderly), health, homelessness, and education.  We regularly support local charities like the Lunch Club with smaller donations that make a big difference, and choose a different main charity each year.  Links to the charities are below, and here's a highlight of recent years:

Charities

It's a bumper year in 2025 with 5 charities!

  • Woodstock Primary School - we are supporting the school by funding a Mindfulness Garden for pupils

  • Bereavement Cafe - The Bereavement Cafe in Woodstock is held at St Mary Magdalene's Church, usually on the second Wednesday of the month, from 3-5pm. It's a space for people who have experienced loss of any kind to come together, share their stories, and find support in a relaxed, cafe-style setting. Refreshments are provided, and volunteers trained in bereavement support are on hand.

  • Woodstock Lunch Club - Woodstock Lunch Club is a 40+ year old community organization that provides affordable two-course lunches every alternate Wednesday for Woodstock residents over 60, especially those living alone, helping them socialize and enjoy hearty meals cooked by volunteers.

  • Singing Together Group - Tessa and Paul's Singing for Fun group is a popular community singing group that brings together locals of all ages and abilities at Woodstock church, recently supported by a £360 donation from Old Woodstock Mock Mayor to cover venue rental costs and keep this welcoming musical activity thriving.

  • Cherwell Collective - we will be supporting their hygiene bank, which gives away products such as tooth brushes to homeless people

2024

Charities

  • 2024 - Marlborough School - we provided funding for an enrichment fund, which part-funded school trips for pupils, ensuring all children have equal access to educational opportunities outside the classroom.

  • Tuesday Tots at the Methodist Church - we are supporting refurbishments at the church for the group that provides early years activities and community connection for families with young children in Woodstock.

  • Woodstock Lunch Club for Seniors - The Old Woodstock Mock Mayor supports Woodstock Lunch Club by funding a Christmas Lunch and a Christmas gift for residents over 60, especially those living alone, helping combat isolation and fostering community connections..

  • Singing Together Group - in December 2024, we heard that this fantastic group was paying for the rent of the church out of then own pockets.  The Mock Mayor now supports this cost and enjoyed a good sing-along when we presented the cheque.
